Reckoning the Child in us

  I've often wondered how childhood experiences shape our adulthood. Certain factors play a crucial role in developing an individual's mental state, including past incidents and parental care. A child raised in a loving foster family is likely to develop enthusiasm for others and enjoy a healthier mental state in early adulthood. Conversely, a child subjected to toxic parenting may exhibit signs of emotional instability as they grow older, having been deprived of love and attention or, overprotected in an unhealthy manner. Additionally, past encounters can also manifest in one’s behavior long after leaving adolescence. For instance, if you were bullied in school for your appearance, each glance in the mirror might remind you of that pain. These unpleasant memories often resurface, particularly when you find yourself in situations that echo those past experiences, such as talking to someone new or being around others who fit societal beauty standards.
